There's one doing its rounds at the moment that I can hear. Not as bad as this one, but still bad. I often wonder if there's anyone trying to sleep that's on a night shift.

LOL!!! That's making me laugh!
We have one that comes around our way , he plays theme tune from Steptoe and Son ,it drives me potty.

No we don't,
Thank Goodness!
The rag and bone men are always about in Yorkshire tha knows. Some of the tunes are pretty catchy but annoying at the same time. I prefer the ones that wake me up. As opposed to the ones that sneak over my fence and try and break into my shed.
Oh no, I gave them my old Ian
we have two every week but they just drive slowly and ring a bell ,saved me lots of money taking stuff away for us .
We have one that blows a bugle and another that uses a megaphone.

I would never let them take anything of mine away as I believe some of them flytip.
He would have drove past if you had any to give him.
Our one just rings an old school bell out of the window...

Sorry had to go out.
Cats that's funny! Ours plays a well known Mexican tune .... I can hum it .. but I can't think what it is. Lucky you Baldric. Dizmo, you've got a point there. Wired .... ;0) mally .. that's a bit better than through a megaphone. I wonder if these people have a permit from the council? hc ... I've never given them anything either, I don't really want to encourage them to be honest. trt ... what's that? Cupid .. that's old school & pretty quaint. These megaphones are a bit of an invasion of your peace & quiet. I might phone the council & see what they say.
Yes, I get that very one, they're all over the Derby area. They've been coming round for years, I see people running out to them or leaving things at the edge of their drive, so they must have a licence. If it wasn't for them there might be a lot more fly tipping. I think they were told to quieten down a bit.
ON the subject of fly tipping -why on earth would a scrap man do his rounds, use his fuel, just to dump his 'bounty' at the end of the day? Scrap is valuable -we pulled own an old building recently that had a tin roof and two old copper boilers -weighed in at the scrap yard we got just shy of £400!
Retrochic, he takes out the bits he wants to keep and supposedly takes the rest to the council tip where he has to pay a fee. It is cheaper for him to fly tip.

If he just took what he wanted and left the rest then people would stop leaving stuff out for him.

If YOUR waste is flytipped, YOU could end up paying a big fine even though you gave it to a scrap man to take away, in some cases even if you pay the scrap man.

I've heard that hc. If you're getting rid of stuff ... you the householder has to make sure the person is registered to do so.

Robinia, ours lowered their noise over Summer, but it seems to have gone back to the level it was before.
The problem lies partly with the council. I can take my scrap to the local tip and get rid of it for nothing but a business has to pay. If it were free for businesses too there would be much less fly tipping.
We have a couple that come round and pick stuff from the end of the drive. One of them is a casual acquaintance and he told me it was a condition of his licence that they do not play loud and raucous noises to attract attention.
Never seen one here. Is it a Northern thing?
