Interesting fact....Eidur Gudjohnsen came on as a substitute for his father, Arnor, in his first international appearance for Iceland. Eidur broke his ankle shortly afterwards, and his father retired, so they never actually appeared on the pitch at the same time.
Ian Wright and Shaun Wright Phillips I think.

thanks for the answers, I would have thought there were more than that. going on from the original question maybe there was a father and son playing in the same match on opposing teams? or do footballers have such short careers that this is so unlikely? anyway thanks for the answers.
Carlos Maria and Juan Manuel Morales

Carlos is a former Uruguayan international who has spent most of his career in the Mexican First Division. But he decided to return to Uruguay in the latter stages of his career to join Montevideo Wanderers last season. There he joined his son Juan Manuel who is product of the club. In August 2008, the duo made history when they shared the same football pitch in an official Uruguayan league match where father Carlos started and later son Juan Manuel joined him after coming on in the second half.
