Why is Spurs' ground called White Hart Lane?

It's not on White Hart Lane, that's about half a mile away.

A brewery used to own the land which was next to a pub called the White Hart Inn. I think thats the connection to the name.

That explains the White Hart bit, but White Hart Lane?

It's not on White Hart Lane.
Tottenhams ground was known as the High Road Ground when they moved in in 1899. It was not until after World War 1 that the name changed to White Hart Lane due to the fact that the nearest station was called White Hart Lane - hope this helps.
