I think it's a good deterrent for morally corrupt individuals who flout the law of the land :)
Rome wasn't built in a day. Although why they spent so much time on gay marriage is beyond me.
This is quite interesting. Should we fine footballers the same as gardeners?(I was going to say plumbers but they're quite wealthy as well I believe.)

Really, the punishment should be harsher to make sure no one breaks any laws. Isn't that how it works with everything else?
don't know how that happened. ;-(
"Although why they spent so much time on gay marriage is beyond me."

Because it became a constitutional issue because of the way the church integrates into our legislature. When you might be removing your head of state (whose power you are wielding as a MP) by disestablishing a church there probably a good reason for a long chinwag about it.

Still waiting for non-homosexual civil partnerships though, that shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to sort out.

great idea Ed, lets introduce "Edo" law, that'd sort it!
I've clipped it off for you Svejk - the system liked your reply so much it printed it twice, it printed it twice.
:)
Good on them. Why should a person earning 35k a week be fined the same as a person earning minimum wage.
Seems like a good idea to me.
There is a mindset of a certain type of driver who views paying the current speeding fine as an acceptable 'trade-off' for flouting speed-limits should they be caught.

These proposals might concentrate their minds and prevail upon them to join the rest of us in the real world....
yeah, cheers, I didn't know why it came up twice'
sorry for diverting your thread, tora.

that gives them more room to fine richer people more ummm but in reality every thing will multiply, even the fixed penalties.
I've never had a fine TTT so I really don't care. Make as much money as they can from people that flout the law...
Another load of wind and puff:

"Any new legislation would first have to be debated in Parliament but there is no current timetable for any such discussion."

and

Very few people are fined anything near to the current maxima. As an example, the current guidance (for which there are no proposals to change) suggest a fine for speeding of one week's net income (reduced by a third for a guilty plea). Interestingly there is no different guidance for speeding on a motorway (current maximum £2,500) to speeding elsewhere (current maximum £1,000). So to be fined the maximum a motorist must have pleaded not guilty and be earning £10,000 per week.

where do you buy your halos ummmm!
Corner shop when I buy my wine and fags :-)
Seriously though. I'm not a nervous driver but I do take care. I have been hit by a car and I know it bloody well hurts. Drive safely. I'm not interested in arriving at my destination 10 minutes early.
Some non- driving sadists would probably like this even more. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/13/swedish-man-may-pay-largest-speeding-fine-ever/
all motor bikes should be exempt from speeding fines

and if they want to cut down on accidents bring in another law to make

sorry mate did not see you

you came from nowhere mate

your fault for riding a bike get a motor

a crime and give them a £2000 fine
