// (Reuters) - Hundreds of convicts, including senior members of al Qaeda, broke out of Iraq's Abu Ghraib jail as comrades launched a military-style assault to free them, authorities said on Monday.
The deadly raid on the high-security jail happened as Sunni Muslim militants are gaining momentum in their insurgency against the Shi'ite-led government that came to power after the U.S. invasion to oust Saddam Hussein. //

I have not seen this story very prominent on any news sites.
Should this story be higher on the news agenda?

Please remember that unto us a child is born Gromit, "journalists" have been very busy.
I heard about it on Radio 4 and Radio Scotland but even they were goo gooing.
yeah it is in the international pages of the DT and Times
along with rioting in France over the burqa

i saw this on the news and in the paper the other day.
I know there has been a royal baby and all, but given the reported size and scope of this raid, I am surprised it has not been given greater prominence in the media.
it has, some just got carried away with the baby thing, the worlds media have been camped on the door of the hospital for three weeks.
yes it should though it got well referred to on Radio 4.

And we should have had a feature on em10's change of name to emmie!
Yes, it should be - together with the troubles in France over the burqa.
i heard the news and as said read the paper, perhaps it's taken some time for the news to properly filter, and maybe there is some denial about this

as to the name change, i did post on Ed's blog, as wasn't aware it happened.
I misread the title - must be because I am still half asleep - "Hundreds of AoGs released"

Congrats on the switch, emmie.

When the papers were taking 7 to 15 pages (which paper was that?) to announce the birth of King Kevin, no wonder these two important stories were buried.
Em’s link: // Authorities say the woman's husband attacked the police officer…….//

//Muslim groups say the police were disrespectful.//

//Youths threw rocks and fireworks ...... Cars were set ablaze.//

There’s an irony there somewhere.
has any one considered that many people really don't care. That the ME, and anywhere inbetween is not something they are interested in, that all they have seen in bombings, suicide missions, and Sunni, Shia killing each other, that is not to say the item isn't news worthy, and perhaps it wasn't at first believed this could happen.
the burqua ban is impossible to police, they would need a police force the size of the Chinese army to implement it. More women will wear it and i suspect that is the same here, that it is now seen as some sort of Martyrs apparel, like a hair shirt.
