Righ as far as i know in the bible it is hinted at that homosexuality is against god? As far as i know it is not a majro part of the bible and only mentioned in a couple of paragraphs?(please correct me if i'm wrong!)
So my question is Why has it taken so much prominence? Why has it so heavily influenced our society and pretty much ALL society? IS humanity inherantly homophobic?

Sorry couldn't get online over the weekend. Naomi your point about it being in leveticus is good but there is so much of Leviticus that hasn't been implemented(typical cherry picking!) So my question is still.. Why has that statement been taken and used more than the others? And what does it say about all of us?
Sorry JJ, I think the Bible should be taken literally! it is apparently the word of God that we are talking about, if you just cherry pick the bits you think are acceptable, surely you will go to hell!!

I don't remember reading anywhere in the bible that says we only have to follow the bits that suit us or we can change bits in the bible to suit modern day thinking and lifestyles.
I say if you want to be a Christian, have the courage of your convictions and follow the Bible to the letter!! or leave it as Easter Bunny nonsense.
I say follow the word of God to the letter or accept that it is all a load of hocus pocus nonsense.

Shermi, I think the statement has been used more than others because it's so explicit. It's meaning is unmistakeable.
People in general like to be liked and accepted, and it takes a strong and determined mind to speak out against majority opinion since that risks not only ridicule, but ostracism. Because of the words contained in the bible, our society has become accustomed to condemning homosexuality. Contradicting the 'holier than thou' status quo takes courage and makes those who do it different. Even at the risk of causing harm to others, those who can't cope with that make what they see as the right noises. This is why bullies gang up together - they are intellectually weak people who are hopeless without the support of their like-minded and unthinking cronies. People are often quick to condemn those society deems as 'different' because it means they are one of the boys, so to speak. They are happy to point the finger at someone else because whilst it's pointing in another direction, it's not being aimed at them.

I think it says that many of us are happy to abandon decent human principles and be led by the nose by others because we are intellectually immature cowards who, for fear of being judged 'different' ourselves, are reluctant to, or incapable of, making an informed and humanly compassionate judgement.

There are so many reasons. First and far most I have already given in my very first post. Then once again you can google yourself "Health Disasters of Homosexuality" and perhaps google "Health Benefits of Homosexuality" too and compare it yourself. AIDS is one benefit I can think of which has served humanity and of course still is serving with its fruitfulness to human kind.
Finally I know you will never answer this. But lets say your own husband tells you tomorrow that he no more finds you attractive but has fallen in love with another man. How would you react?

Keyplus, look, people don't suddenly become homosexual, and they don't choose to be homosexual, just as you didn't choose to be heterosexual. And it isn't some sort of curable illness either (as one of your brothers here once suggested). Why don't you learn a bit about it before commenting further. Your ignorance is all too apparent.
My ignorance is all too aparent and homosexuality is not a sin but a disease. I have heard this all before as I have heard that alcoholism is a disease too.

These are all modern day curtains that can be thrown over anything or any problem a modern society face. And that is another reason why as societies we are going downhill.
