...their views on everyone? The Nigerian ones at the moment are demanding an end to western values etc. They are free to follow their religion, why is it so important to them that others be forced to do the same? Why can they not just quietly follow their own religion and leave others alone. It's as if any differing views are in someway so offensive to them that they must be converted or eliminated. Is their position so weak it cannot stand debate or dissent?

Geezer,

The country is evenly split 50/50 between christians and muslims. 10,000 have died in sectarian violence from both sides in the last 10 years. The Christians are just as bad as the muslims.

Inevitably, out of this chaos, extremists from either side will try to sieze an opportunity.

Thanks Gromit but it does seem that the Muslims particularly seem so intollerant of anyone who doesn't follow their path. Is this just effectively their sort "inquisition" phase a sort of crusade, (what is the muslim equavalent) for Islam.
its because they want to die martyrs so they can go live their after lives as pedophiles with 7 virgins. They are sick freaks and need to be eradicated from this world.

I don't push my views becauseI don't have any views on Muslims, all I do is ask questions about their behaviour or comment on known facts about them.

congrats Leggionaire you get the BGB for this question!
Your post sent me wondering if Nigeria is our next detination to send in the troops. We have more to lose there because of the National Oil Companies including Shell. We are never going to defeat al qaeda as they're like a recurring pimple that goes away and returns when unexpected.

That should put a few $s on the oil price.

That should put a few $s on the oil price.

Yes rov1200 , innocent kids on both sides are dying but we ' ll just worry about how the price of petrol will eat into our alcohol budget shall we!
"Why can they not just quietly follow their own religion and leave others alone. It's as if any differing views are in someway so offensive to them that they must be converted or eliminated. Is their position so weak it cannot stand debate or dissent?"

Islam had reached what is now Nigeria by the ninth century and took hold in the eleventh. Christianity arrived five hundred years later and it was not until the eighteenth century that missionaries became interested in the country.

Unless I'm mistaken, the missionaries and the British who followed, did not think much about the Muslims nor those who followed indigenous beliefs and there was no debate about it
Or perhaps we can re-phrase question as,

Why do westerns countries try forcing their life style, views, laws, likes and dislikes to all the other countries in the world? And they take it so seriously that even send their troops in if the rulers in those countries do not do what they ask them to.
" I don't have any views on Muslims" Whatever have you posted that would give anyone the idea that you have any views on Muslims, R I Geezer ?
The only way to stop it, is to have tolerance from all faiths and beliefs, but this won't happen. However, individuals can make their mark, and lead by example.
I have some Muslim friends who're very honest, decent people. They don't question my beliefs, and I don't question theirs. We just appreciate the differences, and then get on with our lives amicably.
There's no need to despise someone just because of their religion, and I can think of a lot worse for "pushing" their ideas at us than Muslims - e.g. Jehovah's Witnesses. More's the pity we can't all live peacefully side by side.
keyplus90.....western countries/civilisations dont 'force' their way of life on others (proved in the sub-continent who maintained their cultures during Brit occupation).

Just as none are not 'forced' to live in UK! However, when leaders like Idi Amin threw out asians from Africa, India & Pakistan refused to repatriate them and it was left to UK & Canada to home them or the asians there would have been brutally murdered.

R1Geezer....equivalent of 'crusade' is 'jihad' in islamic.

It's written in the Koran that 'infidels' (non muslims) be killed. In the Bible it's written 'walk away from non-believers'!

Islamics are instructed to kill whereas Christians are instructed to walk away.

Hi tamb. Yes - but doesn't it also say somewhere about "an eye for an eye"?
Well said tamborine and I think that settles many of the points posed in reply to the original question.Christians to my knowledge don't wager war on any other religion no matter however extreme.
And christian missionaries never tried to impose their views on any other culture in the world only offered them another choice.
Yet here there are certain Islamic groups who strive to impose both their customs and their law on UK citizens.
And christian missionaries never tried to impose their views on any other culture in the world only offered them another choice.

"This proselytization will mean no peace in the world. Conversions are harmful to India. If I had the power and could legislate I should certainly stop all proselytizing ... It pains me to have to say that the Christian missionaries as a body, with honorable exceptions, have actively supported a system which has impoverished, enervated and demoralized a people considered to be among the gentlest and most civilized on earth" GANDHI

Never heard of The Crusades?
I'm talking about NOW.Name me a Christain sect who is wagering war on someone-that's not what Christians stand for now.Bringing up ancient history is not going to make progress. It's now that counts.
Icemaiden can I just respond to your point by saying I've never heard of any Jehova's Witness extremists committing acts of terrorism resulting in thousands of deaths or taking people hostage them slitting their throats.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
India

The National Liberation Front of Tripura, a rebel group operating in Tripura, North-East India classified by the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism as one of the ten most active terrorist groups in the world, has been accused of forcefully converting people to Christianity.
