Is Caleb the one who inherited the least desirable part of the Holy Land and was the oldest person?

Caleb and Joshua returned from the initial scouting expedition into the Canaan "promised land" with a good report, saying it was a land flowing with milk and honey. The other participants, however emphasized the giants in the land and convinced the rest of the Israelites that the task was too great. Caleb and Joshua protested strongly, but to no avail. The punishment for the disobedience is found in Numbers: 26:65 �For the LORD had said of them, "They shall surely die in the wilderness." So there was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.� Caleb and Joshua did enter the land some 40 years later and Caleb was given the choice portion of land that he had scouted.

Most of the others of Caleb's generation perished in the intervening 40 year wandering...
