Can Orthodox have Anglican Godparents?

Can someone who is about to be baptised into the Greek Orthodox Church have an Anglican godparent? It is fine for a Greek Orthodox person to become godparent to a C of E person but someone I know expressed doubt about the other way round due to several differences in the religion. I doubt this as I was told, 'As long as you're a Christian, it's fine...' Could somebody in the know provide an answer?

All the best!

It is usual for the child/person to have more than one godparent for baptism. One of these MUST be Orthodox. They will take responsibility for the Ladopana.

The godparent must offer to his/her godchild an Easter Candle every Easter and offer a gift on his/her Name Day. In Greece, it is customary also for the godparent on every Easter to buy a new pair of shoes for the child.

Great! Octavius, thank you so much... You seem like a man in the know! So, it's okay to have one Anglican as long as I have an Orthodox godparent, too? Is that right?

Thats about the nuts and bolts of it.

But if its anything like CofE, each vicar/priest may well have their own rules/rule bending and ideas, so just to be sure, check and confirm this with the priest before asking anyone to be godparent.

In my experience, Greek Orthodox do not want to be godparents to a C of E child and I they will only have Greek Orthodox godparents to their children, but I don't know if there are any rules that govern this. It is the same with marriage they only seem to have bestmen who are Greek Orthodox, often overlooking their life long best friends for an almost stranger.
