May retire gracefully from R&S?

(Notice that, like a good boy, I obeyed the rules by making it a question.)

I reckon to call that last question of mine (about creationists) my swan-song on the R&S site. Though this is of monumental unimportance to anyone, I might as well give a few words of explanation.

I have had two years or more of interesting - well, sometimes interesting - debate and discussion about that curious business of religious belief. Some of it has been fun but I have learnt little that I didn't know before and I doubt whether I have contributed much.

In the last few weeks I have asked three basic questions:

How would you prove the existence of Jesus?
What evidence is there for God?
Why don't creationists explain creation?

I won't pretend to be surprised that the questions produced little in the way of robust answers: I know full well that there is no historical basis for the Jesus story, that there is no evidence for God, and that creationists cannot even begin to give us any detail about the procedure.

So was it, as some have unworthily suggested, just a bit of religionist baiting? Certainly not. I deemed it only fair to give believers a free platform on which to shine and show me where I was going wrong. Very generous of me, I would have thought.

But there we are. I'll leave you all to it. See you on some other sites, I hope. Bye bye on this one. Love, chakka35.

Chakka ....... don't do it! At least leave it open and perhaps pop in here and there for a little lively debate. It can be fun - sometimes! :o)

See chakka, if you ‘knew full well’ that these questions could not be answered, what really is the point of asking them? Is that not a paradoxical divergence from the purpose of a Q&A site, or even a debate? The trick questioner.

It often seemed to me that you were not seeking debate or answers to questions, merely extolling your own pre-conceived ideals. Perhaps that is the right thing for you to do - accept that you already know the answer or that the answers to the questions you so desire to hear lie within you, not here.

If you feel your message has not reached the ears of the religious, then perhaps that is because you have not allowed them to listen, or have forced them to hear something which they’d prefer not to, a form of preaching without allowing a word in edgeways. Maybe they are being self-righteous or acting out of piety or ignorance and couldn’t abide your version of self-righteousness. Maybe they just met blind indifference with blind indifference.

If that is the case for you leaving, then fare-the well and ave.

It's not much of a graceful retirement to be fair chakka.
It's looks more like poking your head round the door and saying 'I was right all along - There's no god - ha ha!' and then running off with your fingers in your ears.

Chakka - If the answers of the others were not good enough to convince you then perhaps you had better answer hidden up you sleeves. Why did you not share those.

However if you believe the answers to your questions could be found somewhere else, then please let me know about that.

At last if you can not get that from any where then finally you may have to believe that................................ It is Faith and Faith does not have to be proven with yard stick. It is the feeling inside. My Faith is that God is only one and he does not need a Son, let alone sacrificing his own Son for the sins committed by millions others. However Theland would not agree with it. Waldo's approach would be entirely different. These are their opinions and I should listen and respect their opinions. However if I believe my opinion is right then I should test my faith against the arguments given by others.

That is the only way forward. I hope you would change your mind. Or else we may have to unleash Naomi to sort you out.

Keyplus. The threat of unleashing me on Chakka won't work. I'm sure he's well aware that the most I would do is join him in a good quality gin and tonic and try to convince him to stay.

Chakka, get your tail back here. How dare you threaten to abandon the rest of us wolves to fend for ourselves against these sheep.

If it's simply a matter of having quenched your appetite for mutton than go on and stray from the pack. I do this myself occasionally. Bring us back something tasty, something that will help to clean the wool from between our teeth.

Naomi - Bombay Sapphire perhaps?
Chakka- Your questions will go unanswered anywhere you ask, as they are unable to be answered at this present phase in life. Maybe ask again in a few hundred years, or alternatively I'm sure you'll find out in the afterlife! x

Religion will always pose more questions than answers; thats why they're referred to as 'faiths'.

Chakka35 - You swine! You have been a member of the hardcore regular pride of lions that devour Christians with such relish, for as long as I have been walking around this blood soaked arena, listening to the roar of the crowds, whose posture prevents them from jumping over the fence to do battle, taking one side or the other.
You once told me I was like a purveyor of snake oil, who when exposed, simply moved on to the next street corner to begin again, and I loved you for it, a real workout and good entertainment thrown in!
When what is close to my heart comes up against what is close to your heart, we have, in my opinion, an entertaining debate, even if we don't win converts.
Please don't go. You along with Waldo, Wiz, Naomi, Mibs, and several other prominent posters, really add something to my life, honestly, even if my views cause you to cough and splutter occasionally.
I really will be disappointed if you leave. Please don't.

Wiz agreeing with Theland! Flipping heck, Chakka, you've managed to perform a miracle! God certainly moves in mysterious ways!

Le Chat, Bombay Sapphire? Oo-ah! What a good idea. A good tonic, an ice cube or two, and a thick slice of lime? What say you Chakka? Worth sticking around for I reckon.

Yes, come on Chakka. Grunt, grunt.

There's me arguing that God is a figment of man's imagination - and where are you? Feet up in front of the fire with the quiz and a G&T I suppose! Not good enough. Must try harder!
