I have posted all my Christmas cards using old, first class stamps. Now, all the recipients will have to pay a fee for the card to be delivered.

Honestly!

Tilly, I just checked as I was u sure. Royal Mail stated : Christmas stamps and special stamps (ones with pictures) are exempt and will remain valid for postage after the 31 January 2023. So you won't need to worry about these. use up any non-barcoded 'everyday' stamps where possible or swap these stamps for the new barcoded version.

Oh blow!  Was it many?  They might get away with it - the spirit of goodwill and all that.

Question Author

9 cards.

Next year I'll use Moonpig.

It cost us £2.50 to receive a card from someone we haven't seen for over 20 years and with whom we only communicate by Christmas cards. 😤

Post Office might not notice in Xmas rush  .would have been OK if they had been old Xmas stamps.

Question Author

Oh no. £2.50?

Question Author

I'd better send some more. Is it too late for second class post?

Yup. LoL

We have decided to do without any others the Royal Mail bring to our attention. 😁

2nd class was 18 December, Tilly.

Question Author

Somebody with a bit of sense should have posted a warning on here.😉

Give them all a ring, Tilly, tell that what's happened and not to bother paying the extra - and wish them a very Happy Christmas.  They'll appreciate that just as much - if not more.

Question Author

Good idea, Naomi. Thank you.

I asked Spud the Scarecrow and he agreed with you, Tilly ...

Question Author

Yes, Ellipsis. I feel like Mrs. Potato Head.

They might get through.  When I was a temporary postman I delivered a card with green shield stamps on it.

Question Author

Good man, Sandy. Hopefully, other posties will be as benevolent as you.

I wasn't sure if your old First class stamps had pictures ?

Question Author

Unfortunately, Floko...

but thank you for that.

I think its wrong that you cant use up old stamps, we've paid good money for them, it not as though you've used fake/ forged money to buy them. Sooner or later they will go out of circulation with the stopage of sales.
