Apologies, naomi. My thread was intended to 'unfold' into a thread rather like this but I didn't want it to be overtly R&S, as that would have inhibited replies.

I think their books author not only craftily got followers to believe the Torah and The Gospels were old hat and superceded as of now (7th c.) he also, lawyer-like, stuck in a "no tampering (unless it's me)" clause. Once he snuffed it, the whole thing ossified and *can never change*. It is a dinosaur, like the rest of them.
That "Be excellent to each other" 'religion' in the first Bill and Ted movie is, despite being Hollywood written and bordering on hippydom, light-years ahead of the factionalise-and-mutually-hate urination contest we have, at present. At this rate we'll not be able to move off-world, should the planet come under threat from asteroid impact.

Ludwig’s comparison to Christianity doesn’t work. Unlike the bible, the koran is considered to be the authentic word of God and therefore beyond criticism, and Mohammed the perfect man, an example for all to emulate, and also deemed beyond reproach. Unless that changes – and realistically, if Muslims choose to retain their faith, it can’t – then neither can the religion.
Keyplus, There's a lot of apologist nonsense going on there, and so many issues that he's failed to address, but it's late so for tonight suffice to say that while you clearly see his speech as something that might impress, he doesn't think entirely as you think. Check him out. (Incidentally, he's Shia).

Can Islam Be Reformed? yes of course it can, everything can be reformed. Not only can it be, but it will and has to be, though how long it will take, and how much suffering will be required before it does so, I don't know.
On a note of optimism, now, many people directly involved within the Muslim community, examples; Hamad Abdel Samad and The Muslim Women's Network and more, are beginning to speak of 'post-Quranic Islam'. A scholarly re-interpretation of the Quran is well overdue, the more this is discussed, the sooner the process it might begin.

so if a muslim is a muslim because he will obey the teachings of their quran then how to hell can they be moderate . thats the easiest and simplest explanation there is to it, no ifs and buts no grey area,s , its black and white. if they do not obey the teachings then they are non muslim.
