The Archbishop of Westminster has asked the Pope to strip Savile of his Papal Knighthood , which is pointless as it dies with his death but it could be removed from their rolls of Knights but what is the likelihood of the RC church of punishing anyone accused of sexual abuse.or any other abuse for that matter. ?

"Sir Walter Raleigh was known in Spain as "The Pirate" because he and his crew raped and pillaged Spanish towns (and occasionally ships) to bring back stolen gold to England. Seems to be missing from my school history book."

Hardly unusual for that time, but an account I have never heard before. If it was missing from your history book then pray tell what reliable source you gleaned this from? After all, real scum is a strong term.
It was Pope Ben who, as a Cardinal, issued the order that any member of the Catholic church who passed information about alleged incidents to anyone outside would face excommunication. I presume His Holiness will be punishing himself for thus perpetuation the abuse for so many years when, had it not been for him, it would have come to light much, much earlier.

I don't do dancing, even when highly inebriated, but Frankie boy did indeed play bowls.
And very well too - he had a three handicap.
Sorry, DUncer ...

Why would you add the epithet RIP "despite what you think about him personally"?
A Papal Knighthood lasts for a lifetime and therefore dies with the death of the recipient. Hope that helps !
Drake's ships stopped at Rathlin Island, off the Antrim Coast, when they departed more than 600 of the islanders lay dead.
"A Papal Knighthood lasts for a lifetime"

Presumably because the Pope is supposedly infallible, and to rescind it would lead to an admission of infallibility. To not rescind it however...............
He's only infallible in matters of doctrine. When he backs horses he loses more often than he wins. Just like the rest of us.
A gambling nazi pope? Well I never! As, I hope, does he.

Meanwhile, back to Rathlin Island and Drake sandy. I was blissfully unaware of that. Did Rathlin ever have a population of over 600? Have you any links where I can learn more?
