if they are so convinced they are right, so smug that theyve got life sussed and are totally happy with that...why waste so much time an energy trying to convince other?

especially when they are met with such opposition...

why not just shrug, say whatver and move on with their lives...why are they so obsessed with gathering support?

cheers

Because (as they see it) the Lord has commanded them to 'spread the word':
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"
- Matthew 28:19

I believe that you get a "Reward" for bringing the formerly blind to the religion, kind of like a finders fee.
It depends who you are referring to. Most probably Christian missionaries. As they spend billions of dollars (or pounds) and go all over the world and knock on almost every single door. Some time again and again. I agree that at times it becomes a pain.

Having said that as a Muslim I would ask you that how many times a Muslim preacher has knocked on your door? You may say it is Christian majority country so obviously you would see more Christians preaching. But trust me same is the case even in Muslim countries apart from Saudi Arabia (that is different story). You see missionaries handing copies of Bible or small leaflets more than Imams giving you Quran.

Finally I must say one thing. I am not sure about Christians but Muslims believe that on the day of judgment God will ask the nonbelievers for the reason for not believing in Islam. As no one would be able to tell lie or make an excuse then they may say that never heard of it if no one ever told them. In that case people (Muslims) who were close to them would be questioned that why did they not tell them about Islam? So it is duty of every Muslim to tell people around them ATLEAST once. I personally believe it depends who those people are. If a very close relative then I might not give up otherwise at least once and maximum three times specifically if other person does not like it, and that’s my duty fulfilled. Exactly that is what I did when it came to my Mother and Father (In laws). Because it just does not sound right to keep on nagging people especially if they tell you once that they are not interested.
The answer is in your question. It are only the zealots who have some misguided opinion that their belief MUST be instilled in everyone they meet.

Most religions have some redeeming doctrine.
Islam is too strict with their praying regime and I hate the way they treat their women and child marriages but I do like their positive reprimand for criminals.
Islam does not treat Woman badly few Muslims might do. Then black sheep are in every community. As for Islam, at a time when women were not even considered human and mostly were buried alive, set practical rights for them. They did not have to wait until 1918 to have a right of vote. Islam talks about three main stages of women in this manner. As daughter woman is blessing of God for her parents, as wife woman is gets 50% credit for the righteousness and faith of her husband and finally as mother woman has paradise under her feet, in simple words you respect your mother and paradise is yours. Let me know about any other religion that gives woman all this. Of course I have heard what you said before. But it is more to do with misconceptions than anything else.
You say that, but I feel the need at times to severely question religious people's beliefs and try to sway them towards atheism, so I can't judge.
Keyplus: “... They [women] did not have to wait until 1918 to have a right of vote...”

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you suggesting that women have equal rights to men in Islam? If you are, you are being dishonest. It is a fact that according to Islamic scripture, women are considered to be the chattels of men and therefore they are considered to be lesser than their male counterparts. You may disagree with this stance. I hope that you do. However, Islamic scriptures tell a different story:-

Koran: "Allah directs you in regard of your Children's (inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females.... These are settled portions ordained by Allah."

Bukhari: "The Muslims said among themselves, 'Will Safiyah be one of the Prophet's wives or just a lady captive and one of his possessions?'"

Bukhari: "The Prophet said: 'I was shown the Hell Fire and the majority of its dwellers were women who are disbelievers or ungrateful.' When asked what they were ungrateful for, the Prophet answered, 'All the favours done for them by their husbands.'"

etc., etc., etc.,
Keyplus: “... in simple words you respect your mother and paradise is yours...”

What has admission to 'paradise' got to do with respecting your mother? What if your mother is a despicable rogue? Not one of the 'big three' religions politely suggest that if your parents are completely immoral, violent, intolerant, morons, you should distance yourself from them. There is an implicit assumption that if your parents are Muslim (or Christian, or Jewish) they will be good, fair and honest people. The arrogance and presumptuousness of religious scripture is shocking. It is yet another example of religious instruction which contradicts common sense and logical analysis.

Again to point zero, are we Birdie. Again same disinformation based on your ill information and twisted meanings of Quran.

You can't face the reality head on and that is the reason ever so often you pop your head up and repeat same old misconception. But only for you as you are special breed when it comes to thick walls surrounding the brain that Allah has given you, my offer of face to face debate is still there. Any time, any place of your choice, among people of your choice. Perhaps only then you would stop forgetting what I have told you here so many time. Let me know if interested otherwise all of your words, you tube videos and so on I have seen so many times now that when your name appears there I know what would follow. Because you are just stuck at a point.
birdie1971 - you must surely have heard me before warn that debating with keyplus is like trying to nail jelly to the ceiling. He is so obsessed by his religion, so blinkered by it, that he never answers any point but prefers to make ad hominem attacks on others. You're wasting your time with him.
Yes Chakka - You are right that he is wasting his time and mine too. But I would re-phrase it a bit differently. He has been wasting his time and mine too. So convince him to have a face to face debate with me and perhaps you can come along too to give him helping hand. After all you have immense knowledge and you believe that I do not usually answer questions. In that case I can even HAND you print out of my answers. But then again you may not have an excuse.

How many times do I have to say it?

I do not wish to meet you face to face.
Please try to get it through your thick head. I don't trust you. The reason I don't trust you is that you have demonstrated time and time again that you are a liar. You have lied repeatedly over the years about what has been said between us and others and about what the Koran does and does not say.

You are a pathological liar Keyplus. As such, I have no reason to meet you face to face as you have given me not one scintilla of proof that you are trustworthy or honourable.

Yet again, I make direct, verifiable, accusations about the (lack of) rights of women in your religion and you fail to address them. You simply ignore the questions. You even ignore the words of your own scriptures and just accuse me of misrepresenting Islam. Do you really thing that this is good enough? Dream on.

You subscribe to an overtly misogynistic religion and willingly spread the lie that women have equal rights to men in Islam. How do you sleep at night?

I know. Believe me, I know. I post my answers and questions about Islam (and Christianity) to show the absurdity of Keyplus' (and others') beliefs. I'm sick and tired of hearing religious zealots bemoaning the fact that people such as myself 'attack' their faith. These are the same people who belong to a religion (be it Christianity, Judaism, or Islam) that has for millennia, bullied, threatened, tortured and killed those who chose not to believe in whatever fairytale is their flavour of the century.

When Muslims proclaim that women have equal rights to men under Islamic law, this needs to be challenged and exposed for what it is: a blatant lie. Women do not have equal rights to men under Islamic law. To stay silent and not criticise someone or a group because of the fear of being labelled culturally or religiously insensitive is to give up your right to free speech and to cave in to religious dogma.

People have a right to their beliefs. If they chose to live in a liberal, western democracy, they must be prepared to have those beliefs challenged and questioned.

That tell me that I do not have to read the remaining of your post as most probably it is something I have heard so many time. And therefore a complete waste of time. Thanks for your die hard efforts time and time again.
Haven't any of you heard the old saying "A man (or woman) convinced against his (or her) will, Is of the same opinion still"? Why argue with each other - you are never going to reach agreement.

When their Holy book is a book of lies they will only ever believe and preach lies!!

Keyplus, Try meeting reality head on, there is no God!!! its a silly story, nothing more, nothing less!!!
Absolutely right, birdie. And keyplus's response is absolutely par for the course. Which is why I gave up trying to debate with him years ago.

Mind you, finding religionists on this site who are willing and able to argue rationally is difficult anyway. But - ah! - none so obtuse as keyplus. Ignore him.
