Why is it, that when reporters are reporting on a court case, they always state what the defendant is wearing? What difference does it make if they are wearing a track suit or a suit and tie? It's totally irrelevant.

Courts like you to respect the procedure by dressing accordingly, so turning up in a tracj suit would be considered disrespectful and may affect people's opinion of you.
Why do they always state their age.

"The defendant Thomas Smith 47, stated.............".

That could be Kathyan point. Why should the outcome of a judicial procedure be different depending on what you wear? Not a good system for dispensing justice, is it?
No, it isn't - but sicne when did those dispensing 'justice' live in the real world?
well think of it like this, if you turn up for a job interview looking like a sack of, then you'll probably not get the job. If you turn up in court and show total disrispect for the process do not be surprised if your helping of porridge is slightly larger! Not hard is it!
I think they should move on to hair colour:etc

"The defendatnt, a 23 year old blonde Sagitarian..."
What do you call a Scouser in a suit?
