Thank you.

What a rude person you are, Ethel. Abdulmajid was asking a legitimate question. You could have enlightened him/her without resorting to abuse. Do you know everything there is to know about all topics, or have you ever needed to ask for information? How would you feel if you were spoken to in the manner in which you have spoken to Abdulmajid? Maybe you should practice what you preach and "Show some respect"!
Ethel, as brilliant as your mind is, there is no tongue and cheek in the question whatsoever.
I was just thinking about religion and knew the cow was sacred (apologies for saying scared, first time). And then wondered about bulls and bullocks.
I apologise if my knowledge is not up to your standards, but if you posted a question on James Bond or David Bowie and I answered "STOP BEING SO BLOODY THICK" you may wonder why?
I really fail to see how any tongue in cheek is either shown or assumed in the question. But that's cyber-world for ya!!!!

"Despite their sacred status" (last paragraph)
Ermmmmmm, I have just read your link again and I am bemused that it is not sacred???????
Where exactly is it not??
And I think it is fair to say, google etc. could answer about 97.654% of questions posted here could't it?
And I didn't realise you are such a wide expert on David Bowie and James Bond. I am now in even more awe of you!!

I do hope I'm not being disrespectful by saying that even though these beautiful animals are revered and honoured, I wish they could keep them out of the river Ganges where people bathe and drink. The bovine population urinates and defecates in the water, causing thousands of cases of Cholera per year.
Abdul - in the first paragraph
It is more accurate to say the cow is taboo in Hinduism, rather than sacred.
Also, I didn't say I know everything about Bowie and Bond - I said if I wanted to know I would use Google. I do know that your user id is the title of a piece of music by Bowie. :) Although my very favourite Bowie track is The Laughing Gnome. :|
Thanks, cugetit, I was desperately worried.
