I returned from the chemist with my prescription about six minutes later to see I have got a £60 parking fine. I wrote and appealed against fine as I had Diabetes 2, Transverse Myialites Kidneys working at 50% and lungs only working at 66%.I told them that I could back this up with a doctors certificate and the reply was pay up now or it will go up to £80. Is this right

I'm just saying, I wasn't aware that the Disability Discrimination Act refers specifically to Blue Badge holders when requiring certain car parks to make provision for the disabled. OH probably had a more severe disability than certain others one sees with Blue Badges and so we felt discriminated against in not being allowed to park in a 'disabled space'. It was academic anyway because (a) I was happy to push OH in her wheelchair and (be) I didn't fancy our car being 'keyed' because we didn't have a 'Blue Badge'.
If you approach many of the Major Supermarkets Customer service desk and explain you or your passenger has a temporary disability but no badge they most often will accommodate you.

If your (or their) disability is likely to last, best to get a badge.
If your wife needs a wheelchair to get from the car to a shop why doesn't she apply for a blue badge? I don't understand that.
Because it's a temporary, Naomi.
That's right ummm. We did apply, but were refused (quite abruptly I might add). As I say, it was no big deal anyway.
Ah, right. Sorry, I missed that.
Maybe use the 'parent and child area' gollob, give an alternative group of vigilant citizens their moment to shine and show their sense of perspective and fair play.

Nope, Supermarkets in particular are fine with it, am sure smaller outlets are too.

If approached.
Gollob, you still haven't been clear if it was council or private land you parked on.

If it's the latter you are not obliged to pay even if you've used a disabled bay.
gollob has said it was the public highway, NoMercy
Gollob....I think you should take this on the chin, pay up, and have done with it....we all make mistakes once in a while......I drove in a bus lane about this time last year,
Parked in a Disabled Slot, did not have a Blue Badge Naughty Naughty, pay the fine & learn the lesson.
We were immune from this stuff until relatively recently. Seems our politicians were convinced and persuaded to act in the best interest of all.
For the record, our politicians (Holyrood) are utterly woeful.

Maybe I have completely misunderstood but this thread seems to be about a fine relating to parking on a public highway rather than to private parking fines
