Could anybody tell me why, when travelling east from the Finchley Rd. there are so many boarded up & generally derelict looking houses on the north circular?

I'm assuming you mean a bit further round, just past Muswell Hill. There was a plan to make the road a dual carriageway from Bounds Green Road round to Palmers Green. The houses were bought with the intention of widening the road.
I believe the plan's been put on ice now.
Typical planning! Empty houses and people homeless - they could have at leat provided homes for a few more years.
'at least'
Absolutely. And of course no maintenance has been done on them so they are more than likely uninhabitable now unless huge sums are spent on them.

Thanks - that explains it. It must have cost a fortune to buy all that property and it just looks a disgrace now, especially as those 1950s (rough guess) semis can look so good when they are well maintained.

I wish they would dual that bit of the North Circ. Its a bottleneck nightmare.

I guess Ken likes it that way.

Traffic calming, that's what they call it.
