m4roon77, you had better ask NicolaJane, she's an expert on Brighton!
Thank you Smudge..not quite an expert, just love the place!! I read this question a couple of days ago, and have since been racking my brains trying to remember the name of a great pub, with yummy roasts, which is just outside The Lanes. I just can't remember the name of it. Sooo frustrating! Anyway, m4roon77, have a smashing time in Brighton : )

The Marlborough (Old Steine, opposite the Pavilion) does the best roast I've had in Brighton. Chicken, pork, lamb or nut roast with all the trimmings, good selection of veg and red wine gravy for 5.99. It's a lesbian pub but they welcome all.

The Druids Head on Ditcling Road, opposite the Level, is another place for good value, decent roast.

Any of the Tin Drum restaurants (Hove, Seven Dials or St James St) do nice roast but it's a bit more expensive.

The Hop Poles in Middle Street is nice.

The Sussex on East Street was overpriced and not very good.
