I work at a supermarket in their Bakery department which when I began had me and 2 other people working together on a evening shift (2pm-10pm). Now I work by myself trying to do 3 peoples job which I struggle significantly in doing and as I work alone I get told from the store manager I'm not allowed to leave the department unattended and If I want a break I have to take it when other staff are in. All other staff leave 1-2hrs into my shift meaning I will have to take my break 1hr30mins into the shift. If I don't go then I've been told I'm not allowed to go and it's my choice.
Can they do this?

I'm also pulled aside for a "chat" because the standard of work I'm doing isn't good enough despite having to do 3 peoples jobs. I'm threatened with a disciplinary(s) or "You're only doing half a job so we'll only pay you half your wages".
Can I be punished for not being able to do 3 peoples jobs?

>"You're only doing half a job so we'll only pay you half your wages".
I can't see them halving your pay, especially becaus eteh minimum wage probably prevents this.

>"Can I be punished for not being able to do 3 people's jobs?"
It's not at this stage but i doubt they'd put it in those terms. If there's a chat you'll have the opportunity to discuss with them your concern about workloads and agree performance measures. Good luck.

After your break how long is your final stretch? It sounds as if you're entitled to a later break

8 Hour shift so taking my break 1.5hrs in would leave me 6 hours for my final stretch
Do you have a union?

Or get advice from the Citizens Advice
Thanks. I asked because I didn't know how long the break was you take after 90 minutes.
You mention that "when I began had me and 2 other people working together on an evening shift".
Have levels of sales dropped or were these extra people to get the department up & running. There will be a reason as to why there are not that number now.

Sales certainly haven't dropped. We had 3 staff on which was 1 person behind a counter serving. 1 on shop floor doing admin type work and then 1 which would do additional baking and shelf filling. I'm now expected to do all of this. It dropped to 2 people when one person left and they didn't bother replacing and now down to just me and the other has changed shift times. I'm told that the company doesn't have enough hours spare to get another member of staff.
In the circumstances you may want to explore opportunities elsewhere as once the relationship gets to this stage it's usually hard to repair the working relationship and it's unlikely your workloads will fall much if you stay
