A posting about the "solar tsunami" got me thinking about when I was a child, hearing about the French (I think) testing a bomb in the Pacific. I fretted and fretted about it and kept asking my Mum would we be able to feel it, would we have to hide etc etc. Do any other ABers remember any childhood worries?

When I was about 11 or 12 I saw a Spanish film called La Cabina about a guy who got stuck in a phone booth. I refused to go in a phone booth after that.
Oh and I watched this series back in the early 80s' on ITV (I think) called The Day After. That frightened me.

A short story 'the Fog' meant it was the one type of weather that I hated I was convinced some monster was going to tear me apart...
Also because my dad died when I was so young I was convinced everyone else was going to die soon too and leave me on my own...

Yes Rowan - I agree. I can remember wrapping my arms around my darling grand-mother and being overwhelmed with sadness and telling her I didn't want her to die. She was only about 59!
there were a few incidents in the 80s of footballers "swallowing their tongues" during nasty tackles, that made me quite fearful for a while and I used to bite the tip of my tongue to make sure it was still there:o

also the hillsborough disaster scared me as well
I just thought if I didn't love them they wouldn't die so I pulled away from people rather than let them be close to me
The Dr Who giant maggots gave me the creeps when I was a lad
sapphire and steel used to scare me
Armchair Thriller and Tales of the Unexpected gave me the creeps.

Daleks, chelsea smilers and getting caught chewing gum in class. I also worried about my finger getting run over by an ice-skate if I fell over while ice-skating which still vaguely concerns me.
Whats a Chelsea smiler ?
I watched the daleks on tv from behind the sofa!
