Yikes, what I meant to ask was this. UK stamps now have a sort of elongated embossed oval on them. Does anyone know why?

It is supposed to be harder to remove an unfranked stamp for re-use
It's to stop them being peeled off the envelope and re-used if they manage to get through the postal system without a visible postmark on them;

Yeah but they're rubbish. I do the mail every morning at work and when you're putting on 60 odd stamps you tend to be less careful than if you're putting on one or two. Half the ovals end up stuck to the backing sheet!
