The 1797 penny had various nominal values ranging from a penny to a shilling. Therefore, if it was stamped on the obverse with an 'S', it's value was a shilling.

So is it worth more than the penny (rarer, for example?)

Mrb, there is no listing in the book I have for stamped 'cartwheels'. The value of the ordinary coin ranges from $10 to $400 , buy my book is way out of date. I should add that my explanation for the 'S' is an assumption since the book mentions the various nominal values.
