it is a stick welder.....metal arc
well..what i can tell you is that it is definately of american origin, hence the 220/110v and from talking to a friend today who works as a sales rep for murex welding it was probably made by lincoln in the usa and branded ram to be sold by ram welding supplies usa. i would say that it's got to be good quality as the yanks dont like any of our branded welders such as sip or sealy as they are all made in the same factorys in italy and are assembled using the cheapest components! have you already bought it or tested it out yet?? if it's a used machine it should burn a 3.25 rod comfortably at around 80 to 90 amps and don't forget to check to see if it will still weld smoothly with finer rods at lower amperages as any machine which has had hard use will not be too good down low. hope this has helped..good luck! ps. being nosey now..what are ya welding...any tasty projects???:)

it is a new machine. they are having a sale on them at one of the supply stores here in panama....115.00...if it is a good machine that is a great price. since it was so cheap, i thought i would try to find out if it is a good one. from your comments it should work well for me. i am going to weld some bars for windows and a door as a first project. later, i will do some artsy things like a water fountain, etc...any other suggestions for projects? thanks for the info.

wow panama! with a price like that,it would be rude not to buy one! well once you get through doing your door and window bars...the world's your oyster,as it were! gates and railings etc are nice to work on and you can buy loads of little scrolls, flowers, spikes, balls etc from suppliers to make them as ornate as you like! i used to teach a welding class in a nightschool and the guys and girls would make loads of different things...flower baskets, builders trestles, wood burning stoves..one guy even made his own wrought iron bed..ya should have seen him carrying that across the carpark!! :)
