I shampoo'ed a large woollen rug last week - hung it over the washing line to dry and now unfortunately it has a 'ruckle' / crease down the middle. This will not tread out. Can I iron it? Should I use a hottish iron over brown paper, or a warmish iron straight onto the rug? thanks.

You could try hanging it in a steamy shower and then blowdrying out the crease with a hairdryer.

Good idea NoM. Thanks. I was thinking of something involving a LOT less effort - a) I'm lazy and b) it is a very big heavy rug and I don't think I can hoik it over my shower doors!

But those ruckles are soooo annoying. I'm forever on all fours gliding across the rug trying to get it straight. Good exercise, but looks very odd for anyone looking in....

Can you put something heavy on it for a couple of days like an upturned table ? !
lol not a chance id iron a rug
Thought you were wanting to iron a syrup of figs salla!
Personally-I wouldn't iron it....you may damage the fibres. Why not dampen the crease....then hang it over the line again-but the other way around...that MAY soften the ruckle.
You could try spraying the crease with water, and ironing with a warm iron, on the wrong side of the rug, with something like a towel on the rug so it doesn't damage the rug. I would say quite hot .... good luck
