Have W H Smith lost their way? Once the best bookshop/stationers/newsagents in town. Now their choice of books is poor, they have given over space to the Post Office, CDs and DVDs are not cheap and small choice, stationery expensive, they have closed their loyalty card scheme, and now they are selling Pic n Mix which quite frankly is sold in very unhygienic conditions. I cannot think of any reason why I would use them when Staples, Waterstones, Sainsburys and HMV are a short walk away.

I know what you mean sandmaster. but I don't think they ever were the best bookshop/stationers/newsagents in town, Menzies was much better. I must say that Smiths is not a shop I use that often, though they do usually have the best selection of magazines in town. My teenage sons got W H Smiths gift cards at Christmas, and they really struggled to spend them. One spent his just on magazines, and it was only earlier this month that the younger one decided on a book he would like. I was worried that Smiths were going to close down and he would lose out on not having spent his card!

I agree about Manzies but the one in this town was small and cramped and in any case it closed several years ago. I find WHS a store I just do not particularly wish to visit.
