ebay being impossible

I'm trying to buy an item but ebay wont let me. Theres an item i've seen which is Buy It Now, but its from a US seller, but has 100% feedback. I emailed him whether he would ship to the UK, he said he could and gave me the costs. I've tried proceeding with payment, but I get a message 'Postage costs cannot be calculated for this item because the postage calculator is currently unavailable or the seller has not specified postage costs to your currently selected address. Please select another postage address from your address book and try again. '
Yet i've been given the costs and he's even updated the listing with 'UK', and it wont work. He says he doesnt know why, and i emailed Ebay UK, and they told me that there isnt a problem with my account or the listing (i know that as i've made 2 previous transactions) and they told me to delete my cookies and temporary internet pages. I did do, and i still cant get anywhere. Whats going on here then?

If you are paying via paypal then just circumvent ebay's naff site completly, since you know how much the postage is anyway.
ie. if the item is $50 and the postage is $20 then just send straight to his mail address $70.
Ebay often doesn't work well, just one of those things I'm afraid, you have to be creative to get around the inconvenience.

If you do as Obnoxious says and you don't receive the goods, you'll have no chance of getting your money back.

It's a risk.

Spot on Ethel. Some police forces wont even investigate when sellers/buyers have gone outside the rules regarding payments.
