Tax on shopping in USA

We are going to NY and just wanted to know what the limit is (if any) on shopping you can bring back before you have to start paying tax?

I believe people remove the price tags on the way back ;c)

Don't foget if buying electronics about the different voltages and keyboard layouts (if you're thinking about a lap top) and any issues about claiming on guarantees
