Anybody's opinion on re-covering your old suite ie sofa and 2 chairs. Is it a good result or are you better buying a new one from scratch.

The only reason I dislike buying a new suite is that I find everything ie seats so hard and uncomfortable.

One of my friends recently got a 1960's suite recovered and I must say it looked fab. She mentioned the make of the suite to me as if it should mean something (it didn't) but I reckon it is some sort of collectors item. anyway she trawled the internet to get the right period fabric and then paid to get it recovered so all in all it must have been quite pricey.

It may have to come down to cost versus comfort, unless you are a bit of a seamstress.

a seamstress not a bit. But I think I will get it covered. not rush into it. tho
It depends on the quality of your suite - most upholterers will only recover if the original quality merits it. They will not usually recover a standard high street type of sofa. i don't think that the frames stand up to recovering process. It is also very expensive - we were quoted about 500 to recover a sofa bed a few years ago and that was just with basic fabric. The sofa had originally cost us 1000, but the original covering was really stained after having two babies. In the end, we didn't get it done and just bought some sofa covers. la redoute do some nice ones.

There is a company which is regulary advertised that recovers old suites. I cannot remember what they are called but they advertise in magazines a lot.

Anyway I asked them to come and discuss recovering my suite. I was disappointed to find they only did polyester stretchy material. It was something a granny would have in their house.

Suites have gone so cheap now it is worth buying a new one.
