There is a book I'd like to order for my husbands birthday, and I found it at an amazon shop. when looking into the sellers details, amazingly they are round the corner from my house - even more amazing as I could only find 8 other sellers that had it in stock in the world!! anywho, i emailed the seller asking if it was possible i could see the book (as it was marked down as 'used') and perhaps could i then pay cash and obviously waive the delivery charge as i would have collected it. i received an abrupt email back telling me that it isn't possible due to insurance or something or other...does anyone know how true this is? it seems silly to pay 5 delivery when i could walk to the address!!

any help appreciated before i buy it! thanks xx

I know what you mean. I bought something on Ebay not long ago, from 1/2 mile from where I worked! I still got charged 5 postage as the seller refused to let me collect and insisted on posting it. (5 for a DVD going 1/2 mile sounds a bit steep to me!)
I wanted to buy a couple of books from an EBay store and found the seller lives in the same (small) village as me. I emailed her to ask if I could buy the books through Ebay but collect them in person to save on the 1.75 postage per book. She refused my offer but did say she would deliver them in person......at a cost of 4 per book for petrol. I did some snooping and discovered she lives in the next street to me! Needless to say I haven't bought anything from her.

re sammy snakes reply and ebay. I think a lot of people selling on e bay inflate the postage price so that it covers their e bay listing fees and 4 percent Paypal fee. That's probably the reason they like to post everything out.

thanks to everyone for your replies! i suspected it was something along those lines but was still a little miffed i had to pay the same as someone in america as someone on the same milk round!! lol. it still works out cheaper than most places (and they insist it is 'new' even though its listed as 'used' ...hmm) so i wanted to check if they were telling porkies to make more money out of me, in which case i would have shopped elsewhere - just to be awkward you understand!! ;)

thanks again lovely ABers xxxxx
