Does anyone know where I can get hold of a decent large cool box/bag that doesn't cost the earth?

If you have a Robert Dyas hardware shop near you, they might be a good bet, but being a seasonal thing you're probably more likely to find them in stock during the summer. Camping supply shops might also have them, i.e. Milletts, but again, I think they're more a summer item.

all the big cool bags in my house seem to come from supermarkets, Marks & spencer and Sainsurys and Tescos i think.

We just ordered our turkey from Marks and Spencer and got a free cool bag for when we pick the turkey up.
