I love shopping especially bargain hunting but lately shopping has been uncomfortable, loud music in stores and uncontrollable children, went shopping today in our local mall loud music in every store and in mall as well and parents letting their kids run riot, think I will wait until holiday time is over, one store today had music so loud had to leave, shopping gripe over!

I have sympathy with you on the music front and no excuse for parents letting kids run riot.As a parent myself of a toddler who can sometimes 'turn' without any obvious reason I find it unnecessary for the staring,tut-tutting folk who make a difficult job harder....
Nothing's new about that, caribeing - one reason why I never browse or go to windowshop. I hate muzak in all contexts, I've been known to ask for it to be turned down or off in restaurants and pubs, it's just not necessary. If I go shopping, I go where I need to go, then come home.
No, sorry, shopping was NEVER a pleasure.
Thank god for internet shopping especially at Christmas!
Went in a charity shop today and even they had music playing quite loud. At least it was Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl and I could sing along to it. Sorry if I upset anyone with my "singing".
I don't see how people get pleasure out of shopping. Will go to the shops if I really need something.
I do agree - I've never "enjoyed" shopping. What's enjoyable about dragging round the shops?

Hi boxtops agree was in Superdrug store today and the music was unbearable and a small shop as well told the store manager about loud music and he was quite cavalier made light of it all, had to come away without all I needed
I hope he realised that he'd lost a customer!
Superdrug should have given you paracetamol gratis!
Hate shopping with a passion - love on-line shopping, it has saved my sanity.

would have needed a paracetamol, all that loud music is totally unnecessary there is enough noise with all the crowds!

I do on line shopping but enjoy browsing as well and its an excuse for a walk to the shops and does save on postage when I see things I want to buy!
When you think of it,in everyday life we are constantly surrounded by noise! Even in libraries! Traffic, music from earphones, babble etc etc.

I hate people who turn a private place into a public space!

Silence really is golden!
I also hate music in shops and have often asked for the music to be turned down.

My local NatWest bank has recently had a refit and have now decided to start playing music.

Went in there at 10:00am the other morning at some loud heavy metal track was on.

I had a moan at the lady and asked her who on earth wants to listen to a heavy metal track at 10:00am but she said she could not do anything about it.

I told her I planed to move my account to another branch and when I get back from my holiday at the end of August I will move to another company.

Don't shops realise how much people hate listening to music in their shops.
At no time was shopping ever "a pleasure". It's always been a bind, a necessary evil. The only way to deal with shopping is to make a list and go an get, as quickly as possible, what you need.

It has become even more of a nightmare in recent years as most of today's retaillers have little or no idea of catering for the needs of their customers.
None of the shops around here play music, found it very strange when we moved here (it is a bit Hicksville though).
Or better still, if you can, buy your goods online. The death of the High Street? Can't wait !!!
I can just about bear music...I tend to tune it out. What I can't tolerate is human noise... the never ending babble...and unruly kids. I almost tripped over several who were camped on the floor,in a narrow space, the other day. Parents seem totally unconcerned about how their kids behaviour impacts on others.
Equally bad enough is the blocking of entrances by companies pushing for business, then the cashier trying to push the storecard and also maybe random 'special offers' around the till.Dreadful!
