Does anyone know why some store assistants loudly shout a clothing or footwear size to a fellow assistant?. I witness this today where a woman in front of me bought a shirt, the assistant shouted "10" to another assistant who was behind her with her back to the woman. she didnt look like she done anything with this information so what is the purpose of this?
I have heard the money one, I have just had a theory that she may repeat the size loudly to ensure the customer knows the size before she buys. I think this could be it
Reminds me of the joke where the checkout girl shouts out 'ere Ada, how much is this Anusol? And, this is true, two ladies were having a conversation in the supermarket aisle near me and as one walked away she shouted quite loudly 'Did you manage to get rid of the warts? I asked here to repeat it a bit louder as the people the other side of the supermarket may not have heard. haha!
My daughter worked in a River Island branch. The staff there would wind up customers in this way to relieve their boredom and vent their spite. Especial targets were 'larger women'.
I was at a very low ebb some years ago and asked my male partner to ask for some sanitary towels (in France). My french was not good, so I was in a bit of a tizzy. So he went to the counter and said in his rather loud voice. "Can I have some sanitary towels for this lady?". Embarrassed didn't come close!
Once in the late 1980s I bought some lycra cycle shorts from a local M&S - they were rubbish so I returned them next day - in full view of the queue of people the assistant quizzed me about them THEN SNIFFED THEM!
I have never been back there.
Reminds me of a Spike Milligan book, a guy is waiting for a prescription for cream to kill 'crabs' pubic lice ! The medicine is called 'Blue Unction' and it was very well known that this had just one purpose , to kill crabs. The chemist was a bit deaf and tended to shout . He called out '' Blue Unction ?''
'' Yes'' replied the guy '' I've got Fluffing Crabs''
