Has anyone tried curling their hair with GHD's (or other straighteners)?

I've seen a couple of videos on youtube that make it look easy but it looks like they get big dramatic curls which is ok on long hair but mine is just about shoulder length so I'd end up looking like a poodle.

What sort of look are you going for? You wouldn't get 'big dramatic curls' because your hair wouldn't be long enough. You can get a tighter or looser curl with straighteners depending on the angle you draw them down the hair. I have used GHD to curl but I've found it doesn't last long on my hair.
Use mini GHDs, they give great curls as long as you shake them loose a while before actually going out.

I want to try and just have to loose, wavy curls. Not tight ringlets - that would look awful.

I've got normal sized GHD's so I might give it a go with them but there's no way I'm forking out for an extra mini set.
the curling motion is like when u curl ribbon if that helps?
