Never before has ASBo had a cold. But for the last 24 hours he has been sneezing and coughing. He is OK in other respects, but should I get the kevlar gloves out and put him in a box and take him to see Uncle Vet?

I would Barmaid if it continues any longer. Better to be safe than sorry.

I've kept him in tonight Loftie, with a view to Uncle Vets in the morning. He just cant stop sneezing, bless. Not himself poor little mite.
The constant sneezing will wear him out Barmaid, apart from anything else. He may have something stuck in his nose - like a grass seed.

Lots of cuddles to Asbo :o(

He will be OK, but definitely Uncle Vets.

Yes get him to the vets as soon as you can, had this problem with my cat and ignored it until he started sneezing blood, took him straight to the vets and she removed a 4 inch blade of grass from his right nostril. A jab of antibiotics and anti inflammatory and he was fine.
I have to agree - Frankie started coughing one night and I was going to just ignore it. He then the next afternoon pretty ill and I took him to the vet - he was diagnosed with asthma. I had been spraying odour neutralising stuff (febreeze/frebreeze or whatever) and that is what started him off.

Two years later we have a battle twice a day - he takes his inhaler very reluctantly. :-)

I hope ASBO is okay - he sounds like a nice little cat.
My Stubby used to get a cold twice a year. He didn't have one for about 5 years and then had one recently. He had rheumy eyes for a few days, sneezed and was very clingy, wanting to squeeze up to me on the bed, but he soon gets over them. A week at the most. As long as your cat is up to date with boosters, I shouldn't worry too much, it could even be pollen from mowed lawns, etc.
ASBO's picture - is that his leg and paw at the front? He has an angelic face.

How's ASBO?
Question Author
Well I took ASBO to the vets. She thought he had got a cold. She gave him antibiotics (to ward off any secondary infection) and some decongestant. However, he has got worse. He barely ate at all yesterday (normally, he'll take your hand off for tuna, but only smearing it round his mouth made him eat). He did eat today (tuna and prawns, spoilt malingering bugger). I called the vets yesterday and she said to leave it a couple more days to give the antibiotics time to work. If no better by tomorrow to take him back.

Breaks my heart cos I've never seen him looking so sorry for himself.
Hope he's OK. It's such a worry when pets are ill.
Hi, if he has started to eat then that is a good sign. Have you got someone who will care for him whilst you are on holiday?

Get well soon Asbo. You are a really loved AB pussy cat.

Thank you all.

Lofty, there is no way on god's sweet earth that I will leave him if ill. Caused a row last night, but that is my final say on the matter.
Barmaid, neither would I, but then neither would Mr LL. Wouldn't be fair to him at all. ASBO is far, far more important than a holiday. Holidays can be taken another time or missed if necessary. ASBO is priority. Stick to your guns Barmaid.
Question Author
lol Lofty, this one is "non-negotiable". Unless I am 100% happy with his condition there is nothing that will drag me away. Have said I will fund the holiday for the OH and the kids, but I won't be going unless he is OK. He is my baby boy and my responsibility.
When are you meant to be going?
Hope ASBO will be okay....I feel like I know him xx

And he's ginger :-)

Originally we were going to Disneyland, but the ex wife has thwarted that. So now the plan is Blackpool and Scotland.

He is my gorgeous boy though (despite the fact he is ginger!).
Hi Barmaid. Poor little Asbo :( From my days of being owned by several rescue cats (7 at one time - 28 legs worth of feline fur) I dreaded the days they were down and off their food, for whatever reason. One excellent remedy I found was:-
http://www.remedy4cats.co.uk/
I used to buy it at the local chemist - they also did a beef flavour. I had to syringe it into their little mouths - never an easy chore - blanket around the cat held with one hand, other hand to open that alligator's mouth and then - why were cat lovers not born with 3 hands?
Anyway, I can fully recommend the amazing properties of this product - always worked on the little tigers and got their appetites back. I wish Asbo a speedy recovery back to his normal, adorable, affectionate self ;)
