Why so many? They are never anywhere near full so there cant be that many disabled people using them.

Because there is a legal requirement to provide a certain amount for each "normal" space

I think it works out to about 6%
I must admit, it is extremely annoying that there are so many, especially when the rest of the car park is completely choc a bloc. And many that I see that have cars in them don't have blue stickers.

It seems very disproportianate to me. It has been suggested because of my arthritis that I apply for a blue badge, but too be honest I think there are people far worse off than me. Some days I have great difficulty in walking on others I am fine.

I wonder how the figure of 6% was worked out - I feel absolutely sure that in some car parks the proportion is much larger than 6%.
Plus there also needs to be somewhere for inconsiderate and selfish 4 by 4 and BMW drivers to park so they dont have to walk too far to the supermarket.
Exactly, and of course they have to get in the supermarkets quicker than other people because they are far more important.
To be honest, with the obesity problem we have in the UK it would be good for all of us (me included) to walk a little further from the car to the supermarket entrance.
I always park towards the back of the carpark when I go to a supermarket as I really don't mind walking a few hundred meters to the door.

It does get me that I'll park in the middle of an empty area of the car park without a car about anywhere and yet on my return to the car you can guarantee that there will be two more cars in the same area and they will have both parked right next to my car!
I saw something in a supermarket car park recently which I would have thought was impossible, a smart car taking up four spaces.
thing what you need to do is think about the disabled person who is genuine and can't park near the entrance because some lazy sod thought the same as dave

when you have a problem walking you will understand better
I agree with dr f, if ever you have the misfortune to have to rely on using a disabled bay on a regular basis you may appreciate them more rather than moan about them.

what percentage of parking bays are not disabled? Im sure there are more..
I do have a problem walking and I don't use those spaces. Perhaps I should apply for a blue badge, somedays I really have difficulty getting from car to shop. But if you don't use it you lose it!!
"what percentage of parking bays are not disabled? Im sure there are more"

Errrr.... 94% at a guess :)
I don't begrudge the disabled spaces, there are normaly places further away.
LOL Chuck! He got you there Cazz!! Note - I was too polite to say anything ;o)
Actually, when I fractured my back I got in touch with the council to see if I could get a t emporary badge - no such thing! That seemed daft. I parked in the disabled bays anyway and told them on customer services with the reason. There should be temporary stickers!
Conversely, there are never enough spaces dedicated to mothers with sprogs. It's a disgrace.
There are loads of bays at our Morrisons for mothers with sprogs.
lol I was being ironic... ;)
gollysailor try asda
Are you listening Sainsbury's???
I knew that really cazz!! :o(

(I lie)
