Am I allowed to drive a car to spain and just leave it there, and abandon it?

Once your Tax runs out the DVLA will still charge you for it.
You have to fill in the slip and send it to the DVLA to tell them who you sold it too or whom you let scrap it

I would have thought there would have been a breaker's yard a tad closer, the climate may not be the same mind.

im in a competition racing cheap cars to spain, ijust don't fancy driving back a 100 quid car, so can I just leave it?

Sell it or GIVE it to a Scrapyard , If you dont and you leave it (dump it ) in an EU Country you may find yourself with a large bill.
Make a note of the scrapyard and get a receipt if you can
