4th july in usa

the 4th this year is on a wed, do the Americans have a long weekend or from next wed run it into next weekend to celebrate or do they just have the one day off work? Or even, do they celebrate on a weekend instead when it falls on a weekday?

I was told they also have a half day off the previous day. Mind you their holiday allowances are really bad. I have heard two weeks mentioned. I guess that is because Americans only go abroad when they are rich or retired!! The rest of them probably can't afford a holiday away!!
My English neighbour, who works on an American base, had Wednesday off work
re work... our daughter works for a Global American Company. They would beat Shylock hands down any day for wanting their 'pound of flesh' work wise!!
Workload and welfare seem to be 2 'w's' which are not in their vocabulary.
