Fair's fair squarebear. smwilliams07 did ask to define control in the context of "scientific method" so the answer is reasonably confined and 18 contextual cut and pasted definitions are unnecessary..

smwilliams07, I'll define it as to verify a scientific experiment by conducting a parallel experiment in which the variable being investigated is held constant or is compared with a standard.
