One litre of water weighs one kilogram.
Twenty kilograms of air occupies about 16600 litres at sea level.
Kg is a measure of weight. Litre is a measure of volume. There is no general link between them.
True. That's like asking "What is an inch in pints?"
what an odd question!
could anyone tell me how much a mile weighs while they are at it please!

You know what???? It really wasn't a difficult question, so thanks ever so much for your sarcastic answers, really, thanks. If you put a pint of water on a scale it will give you a weight in kg wont it??? Oh yes, it would....so thanks, I'll work it out myself.
To the person who said 1litre - 1kg, thank-you, that's what I was after.
But you didn't say what it was a measure of!
If you had mentioned that in your post, you would have got the answer. We're not psychic.

Density is the misunderstanding here. 20kg of something dense, like a lump of steel will only occupy a volume of approximately 3 litres. Something less dense like water will occupy more space which happens to be 1 litre per Kg.

20kg of feathers is the same as 20kg of iron, so why did I need to mention that?! I just wanted an equivilent weight in say water as I need to carry 20kg in each hand for an army test, simple as that.

ChirpyKez,
you're definitely Officer class material.
yes 20kg of feathers will weigh the same as 20g of lead but....
if you got a 20litre container and filled it with feathers and got the same size container and filled it with lead which would wiegh more???
Do you now see the problem of asking what 20litres would weigh?
you needed to specify 20litres of what.

No because I asked the opposite!!! Anyway, it's fine, don't worry! I know what I mean...
If I could delete this question I would, I only asked quickly this morning, I didn't expect to get the 3rd degree!

pmsl.
brilliant!
thanks for cheering up my day, what a giggle
ok you asked the opposite...
but if they are different one way the answers will be different the other way too
20kg of feathers will take far more volume in litres than 20kg of lead would.

I still don't think ChirpyKez has realised that he/she never mentioned the word WATER in the question. The first mention of water is in his/her second reply and even then he/she doesn't seem too sure:

We wouldn't by any chance be dealing with a 'Blonde' here would we?
It will be like carrying a large bucket of water in each hand
I find it more frightening that this person is in the army.
You should have been specific to it being water.
A litre of water weighs a hell of a lot less than a litre of mercury, for example.
