What is the true colour of sea water???

What is the true colour. With vast amounts it looks blue, but if you collect it your hands it is clear.

In some instances it's green. Is it because of the reflection of the sky on the water???

Regards

Pure water is slightly blue but you won't notice this in a pint glass or a sink. Sea water is green because of the chlorophyll in the phytoplankton. The colour of the surface of the sea largely depends on the sky, blue on a sunny day or grey on a miserable cloudy day.

The blue colour is reflection of the sky. Next question: why is the sky blue?

The other colours in it depend on what stuff's in it. I'm sure Blackpool sea water is a little different from the stuff near the Maldives.
