Southern. (New Zealand is South of the equator)
And eastern, of course.

thanks i guess i have two different answers to choose from we will wait and see what others come up ok

well it's in both the east and the southern. In fact any great circle, of which there are an infinite number, divides the Earth into 2 hemispheres so it's technically in an infinate number of different ones!

great if only i could copy and paste it! I am doing a science project and it is supposed to be in the book and it isnt so i was stumped how am i going to do that?????

No offence to QM or Loosehead, but I think the answer will be Southern Hemisphere. There's no official line dividing east and west hemispheres. The equator divides the planet into equal halves about the axis of rotation.
When speaking of the game of rugby, New Zealand is referred to as a Southron Hemisphere country.
I'm certain you're right, CT, and that the answer required will indeed be 'southern'. However, I believe there is an 'official' line dividing eastern and western hemispheres...ie the 0 degrees line of latitude and its continuation as the 180 degrees line. The Greenwich Meridian is as much a dividing line as the equator is in terms of earth measurement. Even the earth's days are dictated by it.
Granted, Loosehead, there is an infinite number of possible hemispheres, but only two labelled 'Zero'...ie the two baselines!
Those are the reasons why I opened my first answer with the underlined word 'and'.
I should, of course, have said 'longitude' in Line 4 of my reply above and not 'latitude'. Plonker!
Saved me from jumping on you Q...
I'm amazed that I got away with it for 3 hours, C!
