I am making story sacks for my nieces and Nephews for Christmas. The texts I am using at the moment are Micheal Morpurgo's "Gentle Giant" and the ever popular "Dear Zoo" (can't remember author for that one.)

I wondered if anyone knew these texts, do they have any ideas for activities I could put together and make, craft Kits; games etc for each of these texts.

I have made the Sacks from Calico and have used fabric paints to put the title on the outside, I just need things to fill it up with now.

Any ideas, well appreciated from all you geniuses out there!!!!!!

I never heard of story sacks until I saw your question.. so I did a bit of research.

These two sites give you an idea of what you could use for the Dear Zoo book:

Can't find anything specific for the other book, but what about finger puppets; a toy boat; something about what you might find in a lake - wildlife and plants; toy bricks and some raffia so you can build a house to thatch it?

Cool, thanks for that. I'll check out the sites.

Good thinking about life in the Lake...I think I might do that.

a defo something with barley straw.

cheers. Story sacks are sooooo cool. And make excellent gifts. My Nephew does not go to playgroup and so misses out on activities to do with a text. Story sacks are an excellent support to the literacy curriculum.
