In the same way that the small terrier and Great Dane were each bred from a standard 'dog' over many generations how big could you 'size up' a Komodo dragon?

Theoretically, about 5,000, if you were able to flick the right switches on control genes.

In practice, it would be very very difficult for nature to take that course nowadays, unless there were other dinosaurs around/in development. This is because the selective pressures to 'Supersize me' are quite weak unless there is heavy competition. The Komodo dragon can already beat the **** out of anything else.

Just look at crocodiles....no evolution over thousands of years....no need. Apart from the pink fairy crocodile of North Korea.
