Friday afternoon went shopping in my local supermarket and was minding
my own business when some impatient woman barged into me. I mumbled:- 'Please excuse me would suffice' and I was met with a torrent of abuse which left me shaking and I never finished my shopping as I was near to tears. I'm still seething and upset. What would you have done?
would you have retaliated or just walked away?

Don't take it personally. She didn't know you and might be rude like this to everyone. It's difficult not to be upset, though. Chin up!
It would have depended on my mood, cupid. I think I would have been icily angry and told her where to go. I wouldn't have got into a slanging match though. That's not my thing.

Did you not retaliate at all?

Thanks hellywelly, perhaps I did take it too personal. But you can only think of clever things to retaliate after the event and if I'd lowered myself to her
standards I'd be no better.

I might have mumbled a few things under my breath tilly but I don't go in
for confrontations. I'm a bit of an introvert.
People like this are wierdos and have no idea of the 'social graces'. I was in a crowd waiting to see a member of the Royal family once and I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my ankles, I turned round and a vile woman had pushed a baby's pushchair at me and when I looked at her, she just glared at me with pure hatred. I can only assume she was jealous because I was nearer to the royal person than she was. I didn't say anything because I just knew she was spoiling for a fight - like I say, wierdos !
Id have swing my trolley over her foot, by accident due to shock

If only tambo, but I'm not brave enough. She definitely had a mouth like a sewer though! Liked to have stuffed a huge bar of soap in her gob!
I've never been trolleyed but I did once, in my 40's, get asked if I was old enough to buy alcohol. It was in America though, so perhaps I shouldn't be too chuffed.

(Sorry to digress, Cupid).
Cupid, if you had had a go at her, you would have been even more upset, as it's not in your nature. Try not to dwell on it.
You'll be ready next time - lol
You did the right thing Cupid, she may have being 'off her trolley' on something.

What's past is past you can't change it, let it go think about something nice.
Don't worry about it now or what you wish you would have done, some people are fighters and arguers and some people prefer to avoid confrontation. Either is right in this instance, so don't let the horrible wman bother you any more.
You were lucky. Going back a few years I encounted a moron who was so keen to pick a fight they lied about me, wouldn't leave me alone and I eventually had to hit them when they aimed a kick at me, all in Boots. There are some folk who simply don't deserve to live in the same society as decent folk. Best thing to do is accept they are the ones with the problem and try to put it behind you as one of life's little trials.
It's best not to retaliate - people who are like that seem to relish shouting at other people. Be glad you kept your dignity, and didn't let yourself down x
Cupid, that must have been horrible an I would have done the same as you. She will trolley the wrong person eventually xx
knocked her out and leave her legs sprawling in the trolley down the aisle

Thanks everyone. I will probably stew a little longer. But I'll get over it.
How about you tell me some of your funny escapades to put a smile on my face, lol!xx
Cutting a long story short, I once had an 'altercation' with a man in a car park.

It had run its course and got to a point where I said, 'Oh go home and shout at your wife.'
He replied, 'I haven't got a wife!'
'Why am I not surprised?' said I and got back in my car.

That seemed to deflate him somehow.
I was waiting at the deli counter in Safeways many moons ago ,only me and an old chap there .I was there before him though .When the assistant served me first he went into one .Rammed his trolley into me ,called me for everything ."I fought in the war for young whippersnappers like you etc." Pretty obvious he was three sheets to the wind . I gave him one of my looks and told him to clear off.
He kept on though ,shouting and swearing at me .Finally the security guard hoiked him out of the shop and the manger came and apologised ,said he'd been abusive in there before and gave me a leg of lamb:)
I just knew you would be dignified in a situation like that cupid pal. Well done :-)
