I think that I have seen the Isle of Man from the cliffs at Blackpool, however my friend says that it could be reflections and not the actual Island. Any ideas who may be right?

If the cliffs at blackpool and the isle of man are 1000ft high then it might be possible, however you may have seen a mirage. This requires that the sea be colder than the air with no wind and a temperature inversion in the air so that the light from the IOM is refracted around the curvature of the sea surface.

600ft for each cliff should be enough to give a visual horizon of 60miles :)
