I told my son I would help him with his college work if he sorted out his room and had an early night for a change. This morning he has left his work paper for me to progress, its rocket science and I don't have a clue. It goes like this: Differentiate the following #1 y=x3 #2 y= enx #3 y=loge(2x) his tutor has wrote in the corner of the page " n=5" Can anyone explain how to do these or show me the working out, before he gets home!

Differentiation is essentially finding the slope of a curve.

simple case such as 1 you just decrease the exponent and multiply by it so y=x³ becomes dy/dx=3x²

(bit tricky to show what comes next with AB's limited text answers)

not quite sure what the second one is I suspect that this is the n=5 bit so y=e to the power 5x in this case the number just comes out dy/dx=5e to the power 5x
