All looks quiet out there, or have I missed the thread again? Have a full grid with thematics, but no quotation or author yet, although one part of the grid looks promising. Good clueing this week with some obscure references in BRB used.

Hi AG-S- no, I don't think there is another thread.
I found this one great fun - the quote I use a lot!
Question Author
mmm, still not getting it, going to give it a break for a while
Nice puzzle, I also learned a few new words. The quote and author were entirely new to me although I endorse the philosophy.
I too found this a pleasant outing, some complex wordplay indeed - and a good quote as well. Never did see the point myself.
Question Author
Just got it. Sometimes I think this should apply to doing crosswords.
I enjoyed this puzzle and agree with the sentiment, but if someone else does the work I'm quite fond of the finished product.
Funny old thing, Kaykamina, the h-g has very similar views to yours!
Snowed in today,so a chance to spend more time on EV. Finished the grid and now struggling to find the 'quote' and author.
Yes, wasn't this well set and good fun. I have to agree with K that it would be a pity to live a long time and not benefit from such a delightful product!
OK, have completed the crossword but have no idea about the quote. Your comments are confusing and not very helpful. Have tried drinking vast amounts of red wine, but that hasn't helped either (even looking at the grid upside down - the paper, not me). Any clues, please?
Hi Eaglecountry

A continuous run of unchecked letters should help you.
Cheers, Nudd. This was very enjoyable and clever. A bestseller in the early 70's sprang to mind straight away.
I must be missing something!

We are told to highlight a 'quotation' (13 letters) but the one I have found totals 14 letters ( 4 words) of which the first two words appear in the unchecked letters in the grid.
I believe I have the Author ( 13 letters in total) and wonder if I have misunderstood the preamble?
Should I be looking elsewhere in the grid for the balance of the quote?
Mampara, 13 letters is correct. Remember you're not looking for a quote per se, but a cryptic representation of the quote.
Thank you dr b.

I'm still not absolutely sure which 13 letters I should highlight but I'll enter the Author below the grid.
Thanks for all the comments, have finally got it!!
Snowed in so I kept going back to this for another look and have now finished it and suspect there are not many quotations on the theme but then I am old enough to remember this one but never being one to do as I'm told, did it anyway and very tasty it was!
Good Evening everyone, have finished the grid but have not tracked down either the quotation or the author despite the hints, I think my brain has frozen, how I hate the cold!
Ginger Mog and I vie with one another to get closest to the radiator. Interested to know how the weather is affecting everyone. Here we have had a couple of very light falls of snow but it is very cold.
I don't know about your garden birds Christina but ours are enjoying the carpet of windfalls that have been left as well as eating us out of house and home in their demand for fat slabs.
Like you Devadolly have frozen brain where quote and author are concerned. Birds are happily eating windfalls, but a bold, bad robin is keeping all the other birds at bay on the bird table - a complete stand-off. He looks so cute but ......
I had to consult superwoman to find the quote. A short version of said quote appears in the grid.
