no idea if it's the right answer but hawes sounds like whores (women of the street) - i apologise for the use of the word (if it gets through the site filter)
Hi bibblebub I've thought of several words for "women of the street" but none fitted the clue. Hawes doesn't sound very much like w..... in my part of the country but blueterrier has accepted it. Anyway, past my bedtime, goodnight.Thanks for answering anyway.
