I have a robinia tree 40 feet high. How far are the roots likely to spread and will they prove a subsidence problem.

Robinia Pseudoacacia (the golden one)? Short-lived in general.

Not known for problems.
Maybe up to 15ft from trunk .. bit more maybe. Depends on the ground and water content/table.
Probably no more than 3ft beyond the furthest reaching branch....unless the soils is very dry then they may go beyond that a bit
